DIFFERENT TYPES OF TVCs
TV Commercials (often called TVCs) can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. From basic graphic ads to shooting on location there’s an endless range of styles and creative visual techniques.
Here’s a rough list of what is possible and what they entail.
15s or 30s graphic ads – these commercials are generally created using photos, graphics and/or brochures provided by the client. They are the fastest and easiest ad to create and they’re also the most affordable. They’re great for businesses where filming isn’t always possible (or advantageous) and when you’re looking to get on air as soon as possible.
15s or 30s ad with a one-hour location shoot – these commercials require a camera operator to come to your business or meet you at a specific location. One hour allows us to get enough footage for your ad while still keeping costs low. However, it does require a bit of organisation and time management on the part of the client.
15 or 30s ad with a 2-3 hour on location shoot – doing a slightly longer shoot allows the camera operator to get loads of footage which can then be edited into one or multiple ads and online videos. The more footage we have, the more material you have to play with down the track. So if you’re prepared to invest a little bit more this is a great option in the long run. You can even use all the material on social media or your website.
TVC PRODUCTION TIMELINE
Generally speaking (and there are exceptions of course) creating these ads takes anywhere between 5 to 15 working days depending on the type of ad, the workload on production and the response times of third parties. However 90% of the time it will take 10 working days to produce a basic graphic TVC. Only 3 out of the 10 days are within the control of the production team. Here’s a breakdown. The green days are those that the client can control, the red days those managed by the production team and the blue days are external sources (voice over artists, FreeTV approvals etc).
Day 1 Production request received, job gets booked in for production
Day 2 Script/Concept creation
Day 3 Script/Concept creation
Day 4 Script/Concept gets sent to client and approved by client
Day 5 Voiceover production
Day 6 Voiceover production
Day 7 Edit video
Day 8 Send to client and get client approval or do changes to ad
Day 9 Submission to CAD/FreeTV
Day 10 CAD requires 48hrs minimum with CAD/FreeTV. Once CAD has approved the ad it gets sent to the TV station overnight.
As you can see creating a TVC requires a bit of team effort so please allow for as much time as possible when booking in your production with us, the more time the better.
FILMING AND COLLABORATIONS
Sometimes you might not need us to film a full ad. You might just be needing a couple shots that you’ll send on to your editor or maybe you need help reworking an old ad. We can do that too. Our crew are available at an hourly rate, half daily rate and daily rate. If you just need editing done, we can re-tag or re-edit current commercials or work with previously shot footage. Just send us the high res video files and let us know what you need.
At BlueKino, we create a variety of different types of content for businesses – corporate documentaries, sandwich videos, product demos, advertising campaigns, and more – so just give us a call or request a production and we’ll be happy to help.
